The Institute of Medical Sciences at the University of Tokyo is one of the most authoritative medical research institutions in Japan. It has jurisdiction over many world-class laboratories such as the Cancer Research Institute, the Genomic Medicine Center, and the Stem Cell Therapy Research Center, and has achieved many milestone results in the fields of cancer immunotherapy, gene editing, and regenerative medicine. Working closely with the University of Tokyo Affiliated Hospital, it undertakes many national-level rare disease research projects in Japan and is the core base for genetic diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases in Asia.
